ABOUT THE POSITION
The Driver-in-Training will be an active participant in the hands-on learning and training required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License in preparation for becoming a fully-licensed Bus Driver. Drivers-in-Training will be required to complete a minimum number of instructional exercises in a variety of settings during the program, which could last up to eight weeks.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate as required by Kentucky law.
- Valid Kentucky driver’s license.
- Age 21 or older, and all other qualifications in 702 KAR 5:080 - Bus Driver’s Qualifications, Responsibilities and Training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are listed for reference. Success will involve the ongoing demonstration of desire and ability to perform responsibilities effectively, efficiently, pleasantly and with a focus on student success.
- Actively participate in required classroom learning sessions.
- Participate in hands-on driving training sessions.
- Achieve mastery-level skills as a result of instruction and practice.
- Create and maintain a profile at mycdl.ky.gov.
- Successfully complete all training and obtain Commercial Driver's License.
- Successfully complete the process to become a substitute or full-time bus driver for Boyle County Schools.
- Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education, the Employee Handbook and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
- Maintain good attendance throughout the program, fulfilling obligations of days and hours worked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and climb.
- Required to sit and climb or balance. Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Requires activities involving being around, moving and operating heavy equipment and props.
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate and occasionally loud.
