ABOUT THE POSITION
The Bus Monitor will assist the school bus driver in maintaining discipline while the bus is in operation and maintain proper records and documentation. The Bus Monitor will assist with student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires any combination equivalent to:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are listed for reference. Success will involve the ongoing demonstration of desire and ability to perform responsibilities effectively, efficiently, pleasantly and with a focus on student success.
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus; monitor and assist all students while the bus is in operation.
- Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys.
- Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.
- Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
- Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate.
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Assist handicapped children on and off the bus and escort children across street upon return home; lift children as required; assure a responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.
- Attend meetings and training courses as assigned.
- Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education, the Employee Handbook and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
- Fulfilling contractual obligation of days worked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Continuously required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.
- Requires activities involving being around commercial transportation, exposure to marked changes in temperature (above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees) and humidity.
- The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
- The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
