SUMMARY: To assist in providing safe transportation of all students to and from designated locations with specific and primary attention given to special needs and preschool age children

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists driver in operation of lifts for wheelchairs
  • Provides primary care for and observation of  special needs students
  • Maintains good student conduct on the bus
  • Secures special equipment that may accompany the students
  • Vigilant of any conditions in the loading and unloading area which present a potential danger to students
  • Communicates in an appropriate fashion with students, parents and employees

Other Assigned Duties:

  • Assist in the update and verification of the route sheets for all buses
  • Assist in the completion of the seating charts for all buses
  • Available six (6) hours daily to cover absent monitors or loaded routes
  • Assist in the abatement of potential behavioral/discipline issues by providing additional assistance on buses investigating such issues

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students while transporting, loading and unloading

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Must meet all employment guidelines set forth by Human Resources and approved by the Board of Education

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must complete annual 8 hour update as set forth by Board of Education. Must attend Professional Development trainings as set forth by contractual obligation. Must complete one hour training class detailing specific obligations as laid out by the Kentucky Department of Education. Must attain and maintain First Aid Certification practiced by school nursing staff

 

SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to physically manage students and equipment.  Be able to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently will reach above the head and forward.  The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp equipment or students. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds such as students or students in wheel chairs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces.  The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.

 

The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
