POSITION: Substitute Instructional Assistant (2018-2019)

 

REPORTS TO: School Principal

 

SUMMARY: Assists the teach in general daily classroom activities  in the absence of a regular Instructional Assistant.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in small group pupil instruction; tutors pupils at teacher’s request;
  • Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
  • Assists with setup of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
  • Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions with the teacher.
  • Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
  • Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
  • May escort children to and from various rooms
  • Reinforce learning skills as assigned by the teacher, with groups of students or a single student.
  • Strive to maintain rapport with students.        
  • Creates seat work projects for students.        
  • Assists in enforcing and upholding school regulations.        
  • Assists and suggests learning activities that can enhance learning.
  • Keeps working area neat and in order.
  • Keeps a close working relationship with teacher by giving daily feedback from tutoring sessions.
  • Assist with non-instructional duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS: All applications will be reviewed. Qualified applicants will be contacted regarding required training sessions and additional screening requirements.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
